I was home on childcare leave with Lucas on Monday, as his grandmother had to attend a medical appointment. It was a day well-spent bonding with Lucas. Although at times I almost burst out in frustration.
Spending the day with him made me realise he's really growing too fast for my liking. I can hardly catch up as I feel myself slowly falling behind him. I had initially planned to bring him out to have some fun at VC where there were some water fountains, but it rained very heavily for a large part of the day.
We spent the rainy afternoon indoors playing with his Play-Doh and his plastic ducks. And he napped for a couple of hours while it thundered outside.
We ended up only heading to VC in the early afternoon. I didn't bring a stroller with me, so he had to walk on his own. I think he enjoyed the freedom a lot. He walked, skipped, ran, and at times jumped/bounced his way through the mall. I lifted him off the escalators and he swung from my arms, lifting his legs up high in the air, laughing as he landed.
When he got tired of walking, he would sit on the floor and call for me to wait for him. I turned around a few times to pull him off the floor and I think he thought it was fun, and we ended up repeating this a few times around the mall. When the BOTH of us got tired, we went to Gloria Jean's and he picked out a chocolate truffle cake which we shared.
It was the cutest thing. He stood in front of the fridge and pointed at the cake he wanted. He said Mommy I want cake! I ordered myself a strawberry smoothie and then carried the items to a table. Remember I didn't have a stroller with me? He followed behind me and waited at the table while I went back in the cafe to get a high chair for him. We shared the cake one bite after another. It was bliss! I gave him a sip of the smoothie, and he scrunched his face up, and then said No....
Finishing our snack, we headed to the waiting couches outside the cinema. It was carpeted so he took off his shoes and ran/skipped/hopped around, while I sat on the couch watching the movie trailers.
We went to the supermarket as well to buy him new bottles. He sat in the supermarket trolley and held my purchases while I pushed him around.
We finally had our dinner at Marche, where he polished off half a plate of potato. The other half ended up on the restaurant floor. Going home, he went to bed and lay down, babbling about his day, before finally drifting off to sleep at around 10pm (late I know...). Of course, before that he gave me a hug and a kiss and a sweet night-night.
I cherish days like these. Like I said, he's growing up a little too fast for me.
